Knowledge Cotton Apparel, a visionary brand
“Clothing to keep you warm and our planet cool.”
A brand built on 50 years of experience and family values
The story begins in 1969 when Jorgen Morup and his father decide to open a small textile company in the city of Herning in Denmark. Jorgen has no experience in the textile industry at the time, but he learns very quickly. Fascinated by innovation in the textile industry, he becomes interested in the use of organic cotton in the late 1980s. The choice of sustainability then becomes obvious for the brand. In 2008, Jorgen's son, Mads, joins the family business. Together, they create a clothing line made with eco-friendly textiles. Knowledge Cotton Apparel quickly becomes a benchmark for quality responsible fashion.
The use of new materials
Knowledge Cotton Apparel works with natural materials. In its collections, you will find linen, Tencel, and certified organic wool, produced with respect for biodiversity while ensuring animal welfare. The brand has also replaced leather with microfibers in its collections.
Knowledge Cotton Apparel also uses recycled materials, particularly for its technical products that require the use of plastics, such as rainwear. The brand uses PET polyester, polyethylene terephthalate, made from plastic bottles. By the end of 2017, they had recycled 1,987,724 bottles! This PET polyester is very resistant, easy to wash, and dries quickly.
The brand also works with organic cotton, which is grown exclusively using natural fertilizers and consumes much less water than conventional cotton. It is also a good alternative for reducing CO2 emissions. In 2017, the brand saved approximately 775,900 kg of CO2 thanks to organic cotton. To give you an idea, that is equivalent to 137 trips around the world by car! Furthermore, an organic cotton t-shirt contains 0% pesticides, which is good news for our land, farmers, and your skin too!
Collaboration with certified partners
For 2025, Knowledge Cotton Apparel aims to become 100% carbon neutral, which is why the brand works exclusively with carbon-neutral factories powered by green energy. It is important to the company that its partners share the same values in terms of quality, rigor, and love for the planet. The founders fight against fundamental issues such as poverty and child labor. By choosing certified partners, the brand ensures that good working conditions are respected in the factories as well as in the cotton fields.
The company highlights its 50 years of experience in responsible fashion, research, and innovation with various labels. Currently, the brand is certified by 3 labels: GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standards), Global Recycled Standard, and OCS (Organic Content Standards). These certifications have allowed Knowledge Cotton Apparel to increase its visibility and establish itself as a responsible, transparent brand with real values and quality products.
A real commitment to raising awareness
According to Knowledge Cotton Apparel, it is important to do what is right while respecting people and the environment to be proud of what we build. The brand also aims to change the image of ethical fashion, which is sometimes considered unstylish and outdated, by proving through its collections that it is possible to choose clean, natural, and sustainable fashion without compromising on style.
So, as you have understood, it is all in our hands! As Jorgen would say, “We can act together and make real changes for our planet.” So if you also want to help improve the way we consume fashion, do not hesitate to visit our store or our e-shop where you can see that we make beautiful pieces with recycled bottles!
