Brand History

Established in 1850 in a town bearing the same name, near Mont Saint-Michel, Saint James is one of the oldest French brands. At that time, there were many sheep farms, and many neighboring villages were renowned for wool processing and weaving. A little later, the company began making wool shirts for sailors to keep them warm and withstand the elements. After the shirt, the company decided to create the sailor sweater, which became its flagship product.

The Saint James sailor sweater, a unique expertise

The Saint James sweater is a wool sweater with a very tight knit; it is even said to be waterproof! It is worn close to the body to become a second skin. It features side buttons for practicality and style. For a long time, the French Navy was Saint James's main customer. The striped sweater soon became the sailors' uniform.

Around the 1970s, Saint James decided to take the plunge and produce for the general public on a large scale. The sweater was embraced and became part of French heritage. The brand then continued to evolve and grow while keeping its production in its place of origin. Yes, Saint James sweaters are 100% made in France!  Also, the brand's logo has remained unchanged since 1989 to preserve its strong identity and authenticity.
