What is corn-based faux leather
What is corn leather?
Corn leather is an innovative, entirely plant-based material that offers an alternative to animal leather and plastic.
This material is PETA-certified and BIOBASED, guaranteeing its vegan nature and biological origin.
How is it made?
The manufacturing process of corn leather involves fermenting corn to extract dextrose, a simple sugar that is chemically identical to glucose. This process does not require the use of petrochemical products. The fibers derived from dextrose are then used to create a polymer.

The manufacturing process of Zeta Shoes products
- Corn harvesting: without impacting the food chain.
- Extraction of bio-polyols from non-food, non-GMO, European-grown cereals.
- Mixing the bio-polyols with polyurethane (PU) and dyes to obtain a smooth and solid material.
- Assembly of the material by our Portuguese artisans to bring Zeta products, such as Velcro shoes, to life.
Thus, corn leather offers an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative, using renewable plant-based raw materials rather than animal or petrochemical resources.
